An Electrochemical Study of Hemoglobin
نویسنده
چکیده
In the course of a series of investigations on the physical chemistry of hemoglobin now being carried on in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of the Harvard Medical School, Dr. E. J. Cohn and Dr. R. M. Ferry discovered certain abnormalities in the behavior of a hydrogen electrode immersed in solutions of hemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin. On studying the matter further they found that any inert electrode when dipped into a hemoglobin solution gave a fairly de&rite potential which varied with the degree of oxygenation of the hemoglobin, It was at first thought that this potential might be the oxidation-reduction potential of the system hemoglobin-oxyhemoglobin, and in order to investigate this possibility the present work was undertaken by the author. It was soon found that the titration method of determining oxidation potentials, now being applied in this laboratory to a study of quinones (1, 2) and first proposed by Clark (3), was applicable to hemoglobin solutions; the system of oxidized and reduced compounds involved, however, was not oxyhemoglobin-hemoglobin, but hemoglobin-methemoglobin. The reactions which are the basis of the method are: hemoglobin + K3Fe(CN)6 + methemoglobin; and 2 methemoglobin + NazSz04 + 2 hemoglobin.

Abstract: In this study, we were investigated behavior the electrochemical reductionof nitrite at a hemoglobin (Hb) immobilized on glass carbon electrode (GCE) containingpolypyrol nanofiber (ppy) films. Polypyrrole (PPy) nanofibers have been constructed onGCE applying electrochemical technique, and can to deposit diverse polymers onminiaturized electrodes with this commo...
متن کاملInvestigation on the conformation change of hemoglobin immobilized on MPA-modified electrode by electrochemical method.
The conformation change of bovine hemoglobin (Hb) during the unfolding process induced by urea and acid was investigated by an electrochemical method. Hb unfolding induced by urea of different concentrations was realized by bonding Hb onto a 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) modified gold electrode. The difference in unfolding percentage showed that the Hb unfolding induced by urea was a two-step,...
متن کاملA Brief Study on electrochemical properties of polypyrrole/nano-SiO2
An attempt has been made to investigate the effect of SiO2 nanoparticles on the conductivity of polypyrrole conducting polymeric films prepared by an electrochemical method. The obtained nanocomposites were characterized by FTIR, cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicate that the conductivity of the nanoco...

A systematic study on the electrochemical behavior of the S-derivatives of 2-amino cyclopentene-1-dithiocarboxylic acid (ACDA) has been carried out in aqueous ethanolic solutions by means of polarography, coulometry and voltammetry. All the compounds studied exhibited a well defined anodic wave corresponding to a diffusion controlled process. Controlled potential coulometry gave n=1 per mol...
متن کاملRecent Progress in Electrochemical HbA1c Sensors: A Review
This article reviews recent progress made in the development of electrochemical glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) sensors for the diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus. Electrochemical HbA1c sensors are divided into two categories based on the detection protocol of the sensors. The first type of sensor directly detects HbA1c by binding HbA1c on the surface of an electrode through bio-affinity...
